The Steetley Lime and Basic Company’s Whitehaven Quarry was at Porthywaen on the Llanclys Junction to Llanrhiadr Mochnant and Langynog line near Oswestry. Whitehaven Quarries and Porthywaen Limeworks had a 4’0″ gauge system serving the quarries on two levels, connected by a rope-worked incline. The lower level worked a crushing plant connected to kilns by an aerial ropeway. Rail traffic ceased in May 1951.
